File extension zip information

File extension ZIP denotes a ZIP archive. This is the most preferred method for users to transmit electronic books, applications, screensavers, and games, among other large files. These files are used particularly on environments such as Windows or DOS. These files are created using a creation tool for zip files. These tools take group files and compress them together into a single archive file, at times reducing on amounts of space taken on the hard disk. Following the transference of the zipped file, the recipient unzips it, which causes the hard disk to register the original file.
File extension ZIP files are password protectable. Theoretically, a recipient who recognizes the password can only unzip the file. Different unzipping and zipping software packages utilize differing compression mechanisms, which may be harder or easier to break. Some of the more popular zipping programs are WinZip (Windows unzip and zip software), PKWARE (creator of file format ZIP), and Info-Zip (multiple platform supported unzip and zip software package). Some are shareware and others freeware. The compression process of documents into a single zip file can also be called deep packing.
